Biography of Elizabeth Glenfield

boston cane
Elizabeth is the current holder of the Boston Post Cane.

Born on August 20, 1908 in Mexico, Maine, Elizabeth was the second of six children born to Michael Olsen of Chatham, New Brunswick and Florence (Kierstead) Olsen of Plymouth, Massachusetts. Elizabeth was the valedictorian at Mexico High School when she graduated in 1926. She also met and then married John O. Glenfield in that same year. The pair moved to Waltham, Massachusetts in 1946 after John was discharged from the Army at the end of World War II. After many years there, Elizabeth and John moved to Beverly, Massachusetts in 1986 and then to the Hampton Meadows in Hampton, New Hampshire in 1998, where she now resides.

Elizabeth has been blessed with a large family - she has two sons, nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was honored by her extended family at two separate birthday parties, with grandchildren who attended coming coming from as far as California, Maryland, Washington State, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. The Hampton Meadows Association honored her with a special tribute exhibit and many kind friends and neighbors sent congratulatory cards and flowers.

Elizabeth has done some travelling, spending many winters in California with family as well as visiting Hawaii, Nova Scotia, and Ireland. A devoted crossword puzzle solver, what she's best known for is her warmth, hospitality and caring. Until she recently had to give it up, Elizabeth was an avid fan of crocheting. Afghans seemed to pour from her hands as if they were a cornucopia of love, the fruits of which were both given to family and donated for good causes. While Elizabeth makes the best ever apple pie, according to her daughter-in-law, what she loves most is spending time with her family.
